Premier League leaders Chelsea will reportedly end the loan spell of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez at the club when the winter transfer window reopens in January. This is according to the report from Spanish newspaper Marca. It was revealed that the Blues are prepared to cut short his loan spell after failing to impress.
Spanish international Saul joined Chelsea on a season-long loan deal from reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid on the final day of this summer’s transfer window and the West Londoners have the option to make the move permanent for £30m. Saul had to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer after falling down the pecking order in the midfield department with the arrival of Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul from Italian Serie A side Udinese.
Atletico Madrid won the league title in the Spanish top flight last season and Saul played his part in the title win which was sealed on the last day of the season.
Since moving to Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid, Saul has struggled for playing time. The aforementioned media outlet said that Saul is determined to fight for his place in the Chelsea team, but the club wants to send him back to Atletico Madrid in the New Year.
Saul Niguez has faced a big battle tonail down to a starting place in the Chelsea midfield. He has had to battle with Frenchman N’GoloKante, Italian star Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for one of two availablemidfield spots since the start of the season.
Atletico Madrid loanee Saul made his Chelsea debut during the Premier Leagueclash with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.The Spaniard was hooked at the half-time break after a poor first half as Chelsea beat Villa 3-0 at home. Star striker Romelu Lukaku was the star of the show with two goals either side of the interval.
