Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory have re-signed two former players ahead of thestart of the 2021/22 season. It was revealed that Melbourne Victory have signed former players Emma Robers and Maja Markovski in time for the 2021/22A-League Women’s season which starts next month.
Markovski, 19, is back at Victory for her second spell at the club. The young attacker made five appearances for the club during the 2020/21 Championship-wining season.
Just like what’s obtainable with Markovski, Robers returns to Melbourne Victory for his second spell. Her first spell at the club was during the 2019/20 season.
Robers is back to full fitness after a serious knee injury put spanner in her works during the 2020/21 season. She has made the decision to return to Melbourne Victory where she was part of the AFC Women’s Club Championship two years ago.
Ahead of the new A-League Women’s season, Jeff Hopkins is certain that the re-signings will aid Victory in the quest to defend their title. Hopkins is the Melbourne Victory head coach and he spoke to the club about the new players. According to him, the current Victory squad has what it takes to mount a serious title defence before adding that foundations are being laid for something special at the club.
On Maja, Hopkins said that the young forward would proved to be a valuable addition in the final for Melbourne Victory as she continues to learn her trade at the club. For Robers, the Victory head coach stated that she has been an incredible professional during her recovery from a serious knee injury and that the decision was made to reward her with a contract. He’s optimistic that sheRobers can get back to the form she showed in the WNPL two years ago.
Victory will start the new Australian A-League Women’s season against Adelaide United on December 5.
